Job Description

Product Owner – Health, Life & Savings

Context :

Following the creation of a Transformation Department, a new project execution methodology and governance framework has been implemented. As part of this new governance, new roles have been introduced, including the Business Product Owner.

The Business Product Owner ensures that user stories align with customer requirements, acting as the primary point of contact for identifying product needs on behalf of the customer or business line. This role is responsible for managing and optimizing the product backlog to maximize value, while also facilitating communication and self-organization within the development team.

As a result, the Product Owner will be part of the Business team but will actively contribute to project execution.

Main Responsibilities :

Define the Product Vision and Roadmap :

  • Develop a clear understanding of customer needs and business objectives.
  • Maintain awareness of market trends, competition, and technological advancements that may impact the product.
  • Define and manage the product vision and strategy based on customer insights and market research.
  • Anticipate customer needs through industry expertise.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and address legal or ethical considerations related to the product.
  • Establish a product roadmap that prioritizes features according to business and customer requirements.
  • Be actively involved in the product development process.

Manage Product Backlog and Development Stages :

  • Create and maintain a prioritized product backlog that aligns with the product vision.
  • Continuously refine backlog items based on feedback and evolving business needs.
  • Oversee each phase of the product development cycle, participating in product reviews and suggesting improvements.
  • Ensure backlog items are well-defined, understood, and estimated correctly by the development team.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (developers, designers, marketers, and quality assurance) to ensure customer needs are met.
  • Make strategic decisions on feature prioritization based on business value.
  • Regularly update and communicate backlog changes to stakeholders.
  • Act as the Business’s Primary Point of Contact :

  • Serve as the key liaison for stakeholders (customers, partners, executives, and other departments) regarding product matters.
  • Address development team queries related to user requirements.
  • Monitor product performance, gather stakeholder feedback, and leverage data-driven insights for continuous improvement.
  • Communication and Governance :

  • Demonstrate leadership and ownership of the product while inspiring others to contribute to its vision.
  • Provide feedback on development progress and evaluate team deliverables.
  • Ensure clear communication of backlog priorities to all team members.
  • Actively participate in sprint reviews and identify areas for improvement.
  • Required Skills & Qualifications :

  • Experience in the insurance sector, specifically in Health and Life & Savings (including Employee Benefits).
  • Strong knowledge of process management and process reengineering.
  • Familiarity with IT solutions used in the insurance industry, particularly in Health and Life & Savings.
  • Ability to interpret customer requirements and communicate them effectively in technical language.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and prioritization skills to maximize solution value.
  • Expertise in project management methodologies, including Agile and hybrid approaches.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in project management (Product Owner, Project Manager, or Business Analyst).
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and oversee external service providers.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team-oriented, pragmatic, and results-driven.
  • Fluent in French and English.
