About the FHSE
The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.
The Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FHSE) at the University of Luxembourg brings together expertise from the humanities, linguistics, cognitive sciences, social and educational sciences.
People from across 20 disciplines are working within the Faculty. Along with the disciplinary approach a very ambitious interdisciplinary research culture has been developed. The faculty’s research and teaching focuses on social, economic, political and educational issues with the common goal of contributing to an inclusive, open and resourceful society.
As part of a major expansion in Educational Sciences, the Department of Education & Social Work (DESW) within the Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Science is seeking 4 Maîtres-Assistants (teaching positions) in the following areas to join its team :
- STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) Education
- Teaching and Learning Sciences, with special regard to History and Geography Education
- Teaching and Learning Children’s and Youth Literature, with special regard to German Literature Education
- Teaching and Learning Visual Arts and Aesthetics Education
Your role
In collaboration with colleagues in the DESW, successful candidates will design and deliver courses in the full range of the Faculty’s study programmes in Education, and engage in research and transfer activities that are aligned with the Department’s research agenda.
Successful candidates will be expected to design and deliver courses on teaching and learning in primary and pre-primary school, in both the Bachelor in Educational Sciences (BScE) programme and the new Bachelor en Formation Pédagogique (BFP) programme. Teaching can be offered in other teacher training programmes of FHSE, provided that the teaching requirements of the two aforementioned programmes are fully met.
Specifically, they are expected to :
Develop and maintain teaching activities in one of the above-listed areas in both the BScE and the new BFP (teaching load of at least 240 Teaching Units per academic year)Develop and maintain research activities—with national embedding and of (inter)national relevance—in one of the above-listed areas, thus identifying and (further) developing inspiring practices that can feed back into both teacher education and the school systemAssume appropriate roles internally and externally both in their field of knowledge and, as an educational expert, apply their general knowledge and skills as a researcher and scholarUndertake tutoring and internship supervision of BScE and BFPstudents, and engage with national education actorsContribute to the Faculty as it further strengthens its position as a leading European multicultural and multilingual site of research and teaching in the field of educational and social sciencesYour profile
Successful candidates should have :
PhD degree in educational sciences, with explicit focus on primary and pre-primary educationExpertise in primary and pre-primary education in relation to one of the above-listed areasExperience in teacher educationA minimum of two years of related postdoctoral experience acquired in a university or comparable research centreA promising research record in educational and social sciencesDemonstrated ability to acquire research funds and conduct research projectsA willingness to engage in teamwork in teaching and research groupsAbility to work autonomouslyTeaching experience in a primary or pre-primary school setting is considered an advantageKnowledge of and familiarity with Luxembourg’s multilingual educational system is considered an advantageInternational (higher education) teaching and research experience will be considered an advantageLanguage requirements :
The University of Luxembourg is set in a multilingual context. Successful candidates must normally be proficient in English and either French or German.
German is a requirement for the position in “Teaching and Learning Children’s and Youth Literature, with special regard to German Literature Education”.
