ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Ground Operations Engineer is responsible for providing expert technical support for satellite ground systems and for leading and / or interacting with cross departmental teams to support the design, implementation and smooth handover of satellite ground systems for the next generation satellite networks in MEO and GEO (e.

g. HTS, SES-17 and mPOWER) which should be implemented and operated for SES considering all aspects of systems, services, procedures and any other constraints.

Therefore, for this position you shall have outstanding experience as pragmatic system support engineer in the Radio Frequency & Satellite Communications domain.

You will be responsible for (this is not an exhaustive list) :

  • Offer technical support for satellite ground systems to peers / customers in- and outside the company as an established expert in the satellite and terrestrial ground engineering field and act as a trusted representative of the team and the company (there may appear situations when support outside working hours will be needed)
  • Perform system handover from Ground System Integration team to SES operation team including :
  • Deliver necessary training on ground system to SES operation / Customer
  • Prepare and deliver As-built system documentation
  • Active follow-up and closer of pending action item / ground system deliverables
  • Conduct house integration of ground station components and subsystems including antennas, High Power Amplifiers (HPAs), switch matrix, up / down converters, modulators, inter-facility connection equipment and Co-lo space under the guideline of engineering team
  • Implement integration of measurement, communications and monitoring and control systems (including Service IOT and M&C Systems) under the guideline of engineering department.
  • Perform system upgrades for existing ground systems to bring them to latest technology level that SES needs to fulfil their mission on a global basis
  • Carry out configuration and testing of ground station equipment and software
  • Take care of the remote configuration, management and troubleshooting of GW Infrastructure
  • Execute periodic calibration of ground systems as per the guideline of engineering team
  • Participate in ground system integration and test and operational validation of the ground segment, including generation of test plans and procedures and participation in system acceptance testing, ground readiness tests and network readiness tests
  • Interface and engage with external partners (e.g. customers, etc.)

YOUR PROFILE : Must Have

Must Have

  • A recognized Electrical / Telecommunications Engineering degree (BS / MS or similar) with a knowledge of RF and telecom theory
  • 1 to 4 years of hands-on engineering experience in satellite ground systems and worked successfully as Development or Systems Engineer and as Project Manager
  • Experience in RF measurement techniques, test and verification of ground stations, and expertise in auxiliary systems like Network (IP, switching, routing), Monitoring and Control systems, power, HVAC and civil engineering
  • Proven experience with tools like Word, Excel, Excel VBA, Powerpoint, MS Project, Visio, AutoCad, Lotus Notes, Windows and Linux
  • Willingness to travel for 25% of the time
  • Fluency in written and oral English
