The Research Group of Prof. Dr. Volker Müller, part of the Laboratory of Algorithmics, Cryptography and Security (LACS), embedded in the Department of Computer Science (DCS) of Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM), is currently looking for a Doctoral researcher (PhD candidate) in Computer Science.

The successful applicant will be a member of the Doctoral School for Science and Engineering (DSSE) offering a Doctoral Program in Computer Science aiming to provide interdisciplinary and internationally competitive research training.
The proposed PhD project will be a continuation of research done by Jim Barthel in computational number theory and public key cryptography in the context of the PRIDE project.
A possible research starting point for this PhD project is the practical evaluation of a combination of graph-based techniques with number-theoretic problems like the simultaneous Chinese Remainder Theorem or integer factorisation and generalizations thereof, especially practical evaluations of possible algorithms for the Decisional Simultaneous Chinese Remaindering problem is of interest.
Suggestions for other interesting research topics in computational number theory or public key cryptography can also be discussed.
Your Mission
- Research on the existing results on different variants of the simultaneous Chinese remainder problem and extension of some of the ideas presented in the PhD dissertation of Jim Barthel
- Disseminate results through scientific publications and talks at conferences
- Obtain a PhD in Computer Science
- Support for teaching of up to 4h per week
What we expect from you
- Master-degree in Computer Science or Applied Mathematics
- Proven interest in computational number theory or public key cryptography is required.
- Commitment, team spirit, a critical mind, and motivation are skills that are more than welcome.
- Language : English is a must, French / German in addition would be an asset
- Willingness to inscribe as PhD-student at the University of Luxembourg
- Contract Type : Fixed Term Contract 36 Month (extendable up to 48 months if required)
