About the FSTM

Your role

The SECAN-Lab (Security and Networking Laboratory), headed by Prof. Dr. Thomas Engel and embedded within the Department of Computer Science (DCS) at the University of Luxembourg, invites applications for one Doctoral researcher position in the framework of the TITAN (Time-sensitive Intelligent Threat-aware Automotive Network) project - a cutting-edge public-private partnership between the University of Luxembourg and ATEEL S.à r.l.. The project focuses on AI-enhanced cybersecurity for next-generation automotive networks, combining Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN), Software-Defined Networking (SDN), and advanced machine learning approaches to ensure compliance with ISO / SAE 21434 and UNECE WP.29.

Respnsibilities :

  • Develop lightweight AI / ML models for detecting cyber threats in TSN-based automotive networks
  • Explore and implement reinforcement learning algorithms for secure, real-time traffic scheduling and flow reconfiguration
  • Conduct testbed-based evaluations using automotive-grade hardware in collaboration with ATEEL
  • Contribute to scientific publications, software prototypes, and open dissemination of research outcomes
  • Participate in planned secondments at ATEEL's industrial R&D environment to gain practical insight into compliance testing and certification

Your profile

  • Master's degree (or soon to complete) in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Embedded Systems, or a related discipline
  • Strong interest in cybersecurity, real-time systems, networking protocols, and applied machine learning
  • Experience in at least two of the relevant research areas listed above
  • Excellent written and spoken English (French and / or German is an asset)
  • Motivation for interdisciplinary and applied research
  • We are seeking candidates with a strong interest or background in one or more of the following areas :

  • Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) and Software-Defined Networking (SDN)
  • Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS)
  • Reinforcement Learning and / or Deep Learning
  • Real-time embedded systems
  • Automotive cybersecurity standards (ISO / SAE 21434, UNECE WP.29)
  • Proficiency in Python and / or C / C++ and Linux-based systems
  • Familiarity with OMNeT++, Mininet, or network testbeds (asset)
