The European Space Resources Innovation Centre (ESRIC) is a joint initiative of the Luxembourg Space Agency (LSA), the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST). The primary objective of ESRIC is to research, develop and improve the understanding and performance of processes enabling the utilization of space resources with an initial focus on the Moon.

How will you contribute?

We are looking for a Space Resources Exploration Engineer with demonstrated experience in both terrestrial and planetary geoscience to support the development of the Lunar Resource Reference Model (LRRM). The selected candidate will be responsible for the execution of key technical workflows including lunar data standardization, spatial analysis, geological mapping, and 3D geological modelling.

In this role, you will be responsible for implementing advanced workflows for lunar dataset standardization, spatial analysis, geological interpretation, and 3D subsurface modelling.

Key responsibilities :

  • Ingest, harmonize, and preprocess lunar geospatial datasets (e.g., NASA PDS)
  • Execute spatial analysis routines to generate multilayered geological, geochemical, and geophysical maps.
  • Conduct geological and structural interpretation of prospective lunar terrains.
  • Develop interpretive cross-sections and lithological frameworks.
  • Build and refine 3D geological models using Leapfrog Geo for lunar resources.
  • Support GIS-based delivery of prospectivity layers and stakeholder visualisations.
  • Generate resource classification maps and contribute to uncertainty modelling and data architecture.

We are looking for a hands-on geologist with a hybrid skillset bridging exploration geology and planetary data science.

  • MSc. in Geology, Planetary Geology, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in mineral or oil & gas exploration.
  • Proficiency in ENVI / IDL and hyperspectral data workflows.
  • Familiarity with Leapfrog Geo.
  • Proven proficiency in geological mapping, sampling strategies, and data QA / QC protocols.
  • Ability to adapt terrestrial exploration logic to planetary datasets with constrained resolution and reliability.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with an emphasis on producing clear, structured technical outputs.
  • Experience working in cross-functional, international teams.
  • Excellent English, both written and spoken.
