Sr. Program Manager, Workplace Health & Safety, WHS Central Programs Team

Amazon Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) mission is to provide tools, resources, and environments that support safe, efficient, and healthy behaviors and encourage employees to proactively manage their health and wellbeing. To support this focus area, Amazon is seeking a leader to serve as our Program Manager for Worldwide WHS to build programs that create a safe workplace and build a world-class safety culture. In this role, you will dive deep into operations processes; identify risks through data and first-hand experience; build programs and improve processes to eliminate risks; and influence operations to sustain a culture of safety. This role will focus on leading large, strategic projects within Amazon Business Units (BU) and across different geographies – the role will also look for ways to replicate these BU-specific solutions to other BU, and find commonalities to support scale and speed.
The Sr. Program manager role will challenge you to push boundaries and lead transformative innovation while having the autonomy to make rapid data-driven decisions and invent on behalf of Operators (leaders) and Associates. In this role, you will work cross-functionally with members from various teams, including Operations; Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT); Amazon Robotics (AR); Inbound Supply Chain; Launch; Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP); Capacity Planning; Finance and others to deploy solutions at scale.

This position requires travel up to approximately 25% when needed (and with appropriate health and safety conditions).



Key job responsibilities
The ideal candidate:
- Owns and drives safety programs from inception through global implementation, delivering measurable injury and risk reduction outcomes across Amazon's worldwide network.
- Leads and manages safety-related projects end-to-end, defining clear actions, owners, and timelines to ensure successful delivery.
- Authors narrative papers and business reviews for senior leadership audiences, clearly communicating safety priorities, program performance, and investment recommendations
- Serves as a trusted safety partner to regional leaders, aligning on strategic priorities and tracking progress against goals
- Conducts regular site visits to fulfillment centers, sortation facilities, and delivery stations to personally observe safety practices, gather front-line feedback, and identify opportunities for improvement
- Leads comprehensive incident investigations, rapidly identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence and share learnings globally
- Collaborates cross-functionally with teams in Operations, Engineering, HR, and beyond to scale successful safety initiatives and embed sustainable improvements
- Monitors safety metrics, analyze trends, and present data-driven recommendations to senior leadership on priorities and investment areas


A day in the life
As a Program Manager on the WHS Central Programs Team (CPT), your day centers on project management best practices applied to safety. Expect to spend your time reviewing safety data, running working sessions to unblock in-flight projects, and walking through operational processes to ground your decisions in field truth. You will drive projects that move from idea to validated, network-wide deployment, by working closely with BU stakeholders across the globe.

About the team
The WHS Central Programs Team (CPT) delivers projects that directly impact associate safety. This team dives deep into operational processes, leverages data to identify risks, initiates project ideas, and enhances existing processes. Collaborating closely with field operations, WHS personnel, Tech teams, engineering teams and additional stakeholders, the Central Programs Team employs project management best practices to address defined safety related issues. Furthermore, the Central Programs Team assumes direct responsibility for project definition, piloting, and the deployment of validated projects into the network.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in program or project management
- Experience using data and metrics to measure impact and determine improvements
- Experience in written and spoken English and an ability to compose grammatically correct, concise and accurate written responses
- Experience in safety and/or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, service operations, or related fields
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, safety, environment, or equivalent field of study

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience managing projects and working independently
- Experience working within a global company, with multi-country responsibilities
- Knowledge of Excel at an intermediate level (e.g., pivot tables & charts, multiple criteria lookups, nested logical/IF formulas, data cleansing, array formulas, etc.)
- Experience in technical writing in a relevant field
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and the ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards
- NEBOSH, IOSH, CHMM, ASP, CSP, or CIH certification
- Fluency in Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools
