Role Summary We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Manager Engineering & R&D to lead our multidisciplinary engineering organization and take technologies and products from requirements and concept through design, prototyping, testing, qualification, industrialization and continuous improvement. The role combines people leadership, technical leadership and project execution, with accountability for priorities, resources, engineering quality, schedule and target cost. Key Responsibilities Engineering & Team Leadership Lead, develop and support engineers and technical specialists; define responsibilities, priorities, objectives and resource allocation. Coach team members, identify competency and recruitment needs, and foster technical excellence, ownership, collaboration and continuous improvement. Provide technical guidance and act as escalation point for complex engineering decisions and cross-functional technical issues. Product Development & R&D Own engineering delivery for new products and major product improvements from requirements through design, prototyping, verification, validation and release to production. Ensure requirements, specifications, calculations, drawings, 3D models, tolerance analyses, BOMs and test documentation are complete, controlled and fit for purpose. Lead technical and design reviews and ensure designs meet performance, reliability, manufacturability, quality, time-to-market and target-cost objectives. Develop and maintain the Engineering & R&D roadmap; lead feasibility studies, technology demonstrators and experimental developments relevant to Night Vision, electro-optical and related systems. Coordinate technical cooperation with suppliers, universities, research institutions and external development partners. Industrialization & Production Support Ensure effective transfer of new products into Production and promote Design for Manufacturing, Assembly and Test throughout development. Work with Production, Quality and Supply Chain on manufacturing processes, tooling, fixtures, test equipment, inspection requirements and acceptance criteria. Lead or support root-cause analysis and corrective actions for production and field issues; ensure engineering changes are justified, documented and controlled. Project, Portfolio & Technical Governance Prioritize the Engineering & R&D portfolio, define milestones and risks, allocate resources and maintain clear visibility of development status. Communicate project status, key decisions, technical risks and resource needs to management and relevant stakeholders. Establish and improve engineering processes, design standards, configuration control, change management, verification and validation practices. Apply structured engineering methods including risk analysis, tolerance analysis, FMEA and root-cause analysis where appropriate. Cross-Functional & External Collaboration Act as a key interface between Engineering & R&D and Product Management, Production, Quality, Supply Chain, Sales and company management. Translate commercial and customer requirements into realistic technical objectives and represent Engineering & R&D in relevant customer, supplier and partner discussions. Your Profile Required Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Optical Engineering, Electronics, Physics or another relevant engineering discipline. Several years of experience in engineering, product development or R&D involving physical technical products, including leadership of engineers or multidisciplinary technical teams. Proven experience taking products from concept through detailed engineering, prototyping, testing and industrialization. Strong technical judgement and structured problem-solving capability across multidisciplinary engineering topics. Ability to balance technical performance with manufacturability, quality, cost and schedule, while managing multiple priorities and development risks. Strong leadership, ownership, decision-making, communication and interpersonal skills. Professional working proficiency in English. Citizenship of an EU or NATO member country is required for this position. Advantageous Experience with Night Vision, electro-optical, optical or opto-mechanical systems. Experience in defense, aerospace, security or other high-reliability technical products. Knowledge of precision mechanical design and manufacturing, electronics integration and/or embedded systems. Experience with SolidWorks, PDM/PLM, environmental or reliability testing, ruggedized products, and engineering change/configuration management. Experience working with universities, research organizations, strategic suppliers or external engineering partners.
